Wo ist die DesignData.exe in Inventor 2011?

Das Original DesignData Verzeichnis gab es mal gepackt in der Datei DesignData.exe. Seit Inventor 2011 gibt es die Datei nicht mehr. Autodesk schlägt vor, das DesignData Verzeichnis nach der Installation zu sichern. Das DesignData Verz. liegt unter:

• Windows XP:  C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor <Version>\Design Data
• Windows Vista and Windows 7:  C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk\Inventor <Version>\Design Data

Wer keine Sicherung gemacht hat, der kann sich das Original DesignData Verz. von der DVD wiederherstellen:

Method1:
Run a Repair of the Inventor program via Windows' Control Panel. This will restore the Design Data to their original state.
However before the repair you  need to first delete any customized files you want to reset to their default state. The way Microsoft's repair works is that if a modified file with the same name as the file being restored is discovered on disk, the repair will skip the file to not irreversibly destroy custom data. But in this particular case we want to destroy the custom data, so the delete of some or all of the DesignData files is necessary to enable the restoration of the original version of these files.

Example: if you want to restore the threads.xls to its original state, delete your customized threads.xls first before doing the repair via the Windows Control panel.

Method2:
Copy the files from the installation media to your local %PUBLICDOCUMENTS%\Autodesk\Inventor <Version>\Design Data\ folder and accept the overwrite.

a) If you have physical media DVD, the files can be found on the following disks and folders

For a 32-bit version of Inventor - Disk2:\x86\en-us\inventor\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor <Version>\Design Data
For a 64-bit version of Inventor - Disk3:\ x64\en-us\inventor\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor <Version>\Design Data

b) If you use an electronic download, upon install  of the Inventor suite product, the electronic downloaded files get unzipped to c:\Autodesk\AutoCAD_Inventor_<Version>_English_<OS>
Locate the Design Data files in following subfolder

For a 32-bit version of Inventor - \x86\en-us\ Inventor\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor <Version>\Design Data
For a 64-bit version of Inventor -\ x64\en-us\Inventor\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor <Version>\Design Data

Netzwerklizenz Timeout Funktion

Bei einer Netzwerklizenz gibt es eine Funktion, die es erlaubt, die Lizenz “zurückzugeben” (bzw. der Server gibt sie wieder frei), wenn die Anwendung eine gewisse Zeit nicht aktiv war. Inaktiv heißt:

Any of the following activity in the active application prevents the client workstation from being idle:

• Any keystroke.
• Any mouse click.
• Any command, Lisp expression, menu macro or script in progress.
• Any Modal dialog box opened (a dialog box which needs to close before continuing to other tasks).

Note: Using the Help system does not keep the session active.

SQL Server auf einem Domain Controller installieren (oder eben auch nicht!)

Der Vault Server gehört sowieso nicht auf einen Domain Controller, sondern auf einen dedizierten Server!

Autodesk Vault Server is unable to install Microsoft SQL 2008 Express on a domain controller due to the account used to run SQL services. This is a new restriction Microsoft has placed on Microsoft SQL 2008. For security reasons, Microsoft recommends that you do not install SQL Server 2008 on a domain controller.
